The short version

DevChime doesn't collect, store or share any data about you on our side. There's no account, no analytics and no telemetry. The app runs on your computer and keeps everything there.

What stays on your computer

• Settings and tokens you enter (for GitHub, GitLab, Jenkins, Jira, Figma and alert channels), in a settings file in your user folder (on macOS and Linux, readable only by your user account). You can keep tokens out of it entirely with environment variables.
• The items DevChime tracks (build and run names, issue titles, comment snippets): finished ones are deleted automatically after about a day, ones still running or open after a week at most.

Who DevChime talks to

• The services you connect, directly from your computer with your own tokens, to read what's relevant to you. Their own privacy policies apply to those accounts.
• Alert channels you turn on (ntfy, Pushover, Slack, Discord) receive the text of the alerts you chose to send there.
• Polar, our payment provider, only if you enter a license key. Activating sends the key and your computer's name (so you can tell your devices apart in Polar's customer portal). DevChime then re-checks the key every few days, sending the key and that activation's id. Deactivating sends the same.
• Our website (devchime.com), only to check for updates and when you report a problem. The update check asks for the latest version number and sends nothing about you. A problem report sends what you type in the form: a title, a description, your email if you add one, and, unless you untick it, the app version, your operating system, and which kinds of accounts are connected (for example "github ×2, jenkins"), never their names, links or tokens. Reports are stored as issues in our private GitHub repository, which only the DevChime team can see. Your IP address is used briefly to limit spam and isn't stored.
• Nothing else. DevChime has no servers of its own that your data passes through.

AI coding agents

When you connect Claude Code or GitHub Copilot (not available in DevChime Lite on the Mac App Store), their hooks tell DevChime, on your own computer, when a request starts and finishes. They pass the project folder, the session id, the prompt you typed (DevChime keeps a short excerpt, as a label) and, for Claude Code, the first 300 characters of the reply and any "waiting for you" message. Your code, files, tool inputs and conversation transcripts are never passed to DevChime. None of it leaves your computer, except the text of alerts you choose to send to a phone or chat channel.

Purchases

If you buy a lifetime license on our website, the payment is handled by Polar, which acts as the merchant of record and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive only what's needed to issue and support your license, such as your email address and order details. The license key is stored on your computer, readable only by your user account on macOS and Linux.

If you buy in the Mac App Store app, Apple handles the payment under its own privacy policy and we don't receive your details. The app only records, on your computer, that the purchase was made.
